TikTok parent company ByteDance will discontinue two of its video-sharing apps in India- Vigo Video and Vigo Lite, the company has recently announced.
“We want to thank you for the time you’ve spent with Vigo. It’s you who made us who we are today. We regret to inform you that we’ll discontinue our service after 31st October 2020,” the company said in an app notification to its users, as quoted by Entrackr.
The Chinese internet giant urged its users to move to TikTok post the discontinuation of the app. The company will also allow its users to transfer their videos and their remaining “diamonds” to TikTok, the report said.
Vigo Video and Vigo Lite are video sharing apps quite similar to TikTok. Users can create and share short sketches and videos lip-syncing to Bollywood songs.
The apps, however, have not been as popular in India as ByteDance’s other offering-TikTok. TikTok has garnered over 600 million downloads in India as per reports. Vigo Video had about 4 million monthly active users in May while Vigo Lite had only 1.5 million users, according to a TechCrunch report.
ByteDance currently has three products in India as per the Entrackr report- TikTok, Vigo and Helo, The company is planning to expand its operations in India by establishing a second corporate entity in the country, Economic Times had reported. The company is planning to expand its userbase in the Indian market.
