This week in Apple news we heard quite a few rumors related to the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). The event will be online-only this year (for obvious reasons), but Apple will still likely have plenty of cool announcements and possibly even some hardware launches.

In other Apple news, we heard more about some upcoming product refreshes, including the return of the iMac. We also heard about Apple’s response to the iOS vulnerability that allowed for the unc0ver jailbreaking tool and a possible new perk for Apple Card users when it comes to buying Apple products.

The top Apple news stories of the past week:

  • iPhone 12 production could start next month in full: Last week, we told you a rumor that the entry-tier iPhone 12 could enter production in July. However, a new rumor from a different source claims that all four of the iPhone 12 models could enter production next month. However, rumors still abound that some of the iPhone models will see a delayed release, even if Apple sticks to its usual September launch.
  • WWDC 2020 could see an official Arm announcement: Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) starts later this month. Rumors are circulating that Apple could formally announce its plans to start shifting Mac processors from Intel-based products to Arm-based ones. This will be a huge deal as it will cause the dominant Intel to inevitably lose some market share. Hopefully, this would increase competition and cause the price of chips to come down. However, an Arm-based Mac wouldn’t likely land until 2021, at the earliest.
  • Speaking of WWDC, here’s the schedule: If you want to follow along with all the WWDC goodies, you can check the official schedule here. The most important bit is the keynote, which happens on June 22 at 10:00 AM PT (1:00 PM ET). That’s when Apple will announce most (if not all) its new hardware.
  • New iMac could be on the way with iPad stylings: According to a notorious Apple leaker, we might see a new iMac launch at WWDC. Allegedly, this update to the popular line of consumer computers would borrow a lot of design language from the recent crop of iPad Pros. This would make a lot of sense as we expect the iPhone 12 series to do the same, which would make all base-level Apple products look very similar.
  • RIP iOS 13.5: Since iOS 13.5 features a vulnerability that allows for jailbreaking of most iOS-based devices through a tool called unc0ver, Apple has stopped signing that release. That means if you upgrade to iOS 13.5.1 — which patches the jailbreaking vulnerability — you won’t be able to go back to iOS 13.5.
  • Use your Apple Card to buy Apple stuff and save: A new rumor from Bloomberg alleges that Apple might be planning a promotion that allows Apple Card users to buy Apple products interest-free and pay over several months (up to 12). Buyers would also get the usual 3% Daily Cash back for these purchases. This would make high-ticket items a little more palatable to buyers.
  • Apple is now world’s first $1.5 trillion company: Apple is in a very small group of companies that have ever exceeded a $1 trillion valuation. Now, the company is officially the only company to hit the $1.5 trillion mark. How long until it hits $2 trillion, I wonder?
  • New Tom Hanks WWII film will hit Apple TV Plus: Tom Hanks sure does love making World War II movies. His latest, entitled Greyhound, centers on the Battle of the Atlantic, an important but oft-overlooked event during the war. The film will debut on Apple TV Plus on Friday, July 10.
